Reliability
and Redundancy of Service
Reliability of service
providers for your business
is key to success. If your
clients cannot hear you,
get dropped from calls,
or experience problems
with your telephone conferencing
systems, then your company
looks bad for using a “cheap” service.
AccuConference provides
a very reliable, inexpensive
service, without resorting
to the methods of the “cheap” service
providers. Below are some
technical questions to
ask your potential vendors
about their conferencing
systems.
1. What types of carriers
do you use?
There are many carriers
in the world today. Some
are “Tier A” carriers,
such as AT&T, Qwest,
Sprint, Global Crossing,
Verizon, etc. Some are
reliable “Tier
B” carriers that
directly interface with
the main carriers, such
as Wiltel, Time Warner,
Level 3, and many other
local carriers. There are
also what is considered “Tier
C” carriers that
are hit-and-miss. Many
of them utilize VOIP technology
heavily, delivering it
to the end-user over the
Internet. This type of
connection is generally
not reliable for business
applications, and will
provide a poor quality
connection for your conference.
AccuConference utilizes
only “Tier A” carriers
for it’s toll-free
and International traffic
and “Tier B” for
all local calls. By refusing
to settle for questionable
quality “cheap” carriers,
we can guarantee the quality
of the connection and the
reliability of the network.
2. How many carriers
do you have?
In addition to using all “Tier
A” carriers for toll-free
traffic, we also employ
multiple carriers for all
of our conference bridges.
This gives us even more
reliability by providing
us with an alternative
when one of the “Tier
A” carriers
experience a problem. No
matter how good your carrier
is, there are always human
and natural disaster factors
that can affect service.
Each of our toll-free conference
bridges has two or more
redundant carriers, with
no carrier having more
than 50% in any one bridge.
We also consider a bridge “full” when
it is utilized at 50% consistently.
This does two things for
our customers. First, it
provides enough capacity
should one carrier fail
to continue to have conference
calls. Secondly, it gives
some extra breathing room,
should a conference unexpectedly
exceed the number of callers
that were estimated to
be on it. We have had several
300+ conferences that were
unexpected, and our customers
were delighted to know
that we can burst to these
capacities and beyond to
accommodate their unexpected
needs.
3. Are you a RESPORG?
The term “RESPORG” is
short for “responsible
organization”. In
the communications world,
it means that you have
passed a set of tests and
provided the necessary
funds to have direct control
over the 800/888/877/866
toll-free database. By
being a RESPORG, we have
the ability to directly
control toll-free numbers
and move them between carriers.
This capability, combined
with our 50% redundant
carriers mentioned above,
allows us to quickly reroute
numbers in the event of
a carrier outage, hardware
failure, or other unforeseen
event. Without RESPORG
certification, a provider
would have to call their
upstream carrier (such
as Qwest, Verizon, MCI,
etc.) and ask them to change
the routing on the toll-free
numbers. Tier A, B and
C carriers are almost always
RESPORGs and can make these
changes, but the added
time and effort required
to contact a third party
when a change is needed
can take hours, which is
unacceptable during a service
outage. Also, AccuConference’s
RESPORG status allows us
to choose custom “vanity” 800
numbers for our customers.
We have done this for many
customers, including some
universities that wanted
a number such as 8XX-XX-TULSA
as their number.
